Born in 1975, Ann Murphy has been immersed in creation since she was a child.
Background and career
Throughout her career as a self-taught artist, Murphy developed a wide variety of techniques such as drawing, painting, carpentry and sculpture. At the age of 25, while establishing herself as an artist, she completed a degree in interior design, to round out her arsenal of skills.
She has participated in a multitude of Art Fairs as well as art shows across Quebec. Murphy has also taken part in several exhibitions in Canadian and American galleries. Although her earlier career focused mainly on papier-mâché sculptures, she has now turned her attention to painting. By incorporating paper - wallpaper, comic strips and newspaper clippings of all kinds - into her acrylic paintings, she has found a cohesive way to combine her two favorite mediums.
After nearly 20 years of pursuing careers as an interior designer and painter, she decided in 2018 to devote herself solely to her artistic career.
Nowadays, Murphy draws inspiration from her life and her eclectic environment. Nestled in a charming little neighborhood bordering the St. Lawrence River, she is immersed in the bursting mosaic that is Montreal. Colors, cultures, textures, nature and urbanism blend endlessly to create an infinite amount of visual stimulation. This rich environment allows the artist to navigate from one project to the next without ever running out of inspiration.

With a particular affinity for animal subjects, Murphy indulges her love of pattern and over-the-top composition for which she is renowned. Her animals are filled with mesmerizing detail. The great attention she pays to their fur, feathers and scales is an expression of her unique signature. By infusing every bit of her personality and soul, she offers the viewer a bold, non-compromising work of art.
