Yvonne Reddick - Deep intimacy
Yvonne Reddick was born in 1958 in Prince Edward County, a picturesque area of Eastern Ontario. In 1986, she moved to Kamloops, British Columbia, where she now lives.
Background and career
After completing studies in education, Yvonne Reddick taught for a few years before painting demanded her attention, a change in direction that emerged during travels to Italy. There she was completely overwhelmed by the beautiful work of the great Renaissance and Baroque masters, and decided to devote herself to painting.
In 2003, following long solitary search to find her own style and subject matter, Yvonne met painter David Langevin, who mentored her quest for artistic mastery. This period of study produced remarkable results; through hard work and innate talent, she quickly earned a place in British Columbia’s art scene. In 2006, she decided to make the big transition to full-time artist, and since then, her work has achieved resounding success right across Canada.
Work and art
Yvonne Reddick’s compositions are harmonious alliances of subtle richness. Through her preferred subjects, still lifes, she creates warm, enticing ambiances.
Her very carefully chosen palette dominated by warm colours breathes life into fruit and objects from daily life. Her great mastery helps her create luminous, deeply sensual canvases with transcendent balance. She achieves this through one of the techniques used by the great European masters, glazing, to harmonize colours and give them more brilliance. Earth tones and yellow ochre are the dominant tones in this work characterized by serenity, friendliness and the comfort of home.
Under her delicate brushstrokes, pears, pomegranates and other delicious globes speak of warm abundance. The morning’s cup of coffee or newspaper takes on an unexpected dimension under the effect of carefully chosen colours and the resulting luminescence. Her spare compositions and the way she depicts the real, often in close up perspective, help make her paintings more alive than nature itself.
The artist approaches the nature of things as if time had stopped, stood still for a moment. Reddick’s paintings have an extraordinary ability to contemplate the world and, through apparent immobility, render all the inherent life. Her work is a tribute to the offerings of life, an indelible mark that continues to resonate with the passage of time.
Yvonne Reddick is represented by the Au P'tit Bonheur Art Gallery since 2010, exclusively for Eastern Canada.
